2022 ORC SPORTBOAT EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP: THE COUNT DOWN BEGINS

Sistiana (Trieste), 16 September 2022 – The countdown has started in the Gulf of Trieste for what is the most important ORC Sportboat sailing event of the season: the 2022 ORC Sportboat European Championship.
From 10-15 October Diporto Nautico Sistiana will welcome the best teams in the Sportboat world, where boats with a maximum length of 9.15 meters and a maximum weight of two tons will compete on race courses set off of Sistiana and in its brand new club house overlooking the sea. Two European Champion titles will be awarded in two class divisions, with 22 teams currently registered from Estonia, Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, and Great Britain as well as Italy entered to compete for these awards. Registration for additional entries is open until 25 September.
This event represents one of the most important events in the North Adriatic area, following the success of the ORC World Championship and the Italian ORC Championships in 2017 and the recent Italian ORC Championship at the end of August organized by the friends of the Yacht Club Monfalcone.
The assignment and organization of this European Championship in Trieste and at Diporto Nautico Sistiana represents a strong and clear recognition of the passion and work that this Club has carried out in recent years. The Club has established itself as a true point of reference for the Gulf of Trieste and beyond, as there are great expectations for the upcoming ORC Sportboat European Championship 2022.
“We are proud to be able to organize an event of this importance,” said Fulvio Vecchiet, President of the Organizing Committee. “This event coincidentally comes at a historic moment for our new club house on the sea: a double dream that comes true. These days we are receiving the registrations of several teams that we can’t wait to welcome to Sistiana, certain not to disappoint the expectations they place on our organization.
“Great thanks go out so far to all the subjects, organizations, partners and volunteers who have contributed and helped to make everything possible, which is added to the increasingly large national and international events that our Gulf welcomes. A constant growth which is also the growth of a territory that believes in the value of sport also as an “engine” of development in various areas for the benefit of an ever-growing community.”
Double European titles (absolute and Corinthian) will be awarded from the results of eight races including a coastal race and seven windward-leeward races, with the first start being set for Wednesday 12 October.
